How to get to your Y: (Personal) Drive

Each user of the Simmons College network has access to his or her own personal folder on the file server. This drive is your own personal space on the Simmons file server. You are the only person who has access to this drive. 

The student personal folder is located at Mcbfs1\Student

The faculty\staff personal folder is located at Mcbfs1\Users

From On-Campus

To access your Y: drive from a PC, click on My Computer from the Desktop and then the computer drive labeled with your username.

To access your Y: drive from a Mac, go to the Finder bar at the top of the screen and select the 'Go' option. From the dropdown menu, select the option to connect to server. From there, enter the following and select connect:

  • Student- smb://Mcbfs1/student
  • Faculty/Staff- smb://Mcbfs1/users

From Off-Campus

If you are not currently connected to the Simmons network, you will need to follow additional steps to access your Y: drive.

  1. Visit https://vpn.simmons.edu
  2. Log in with your universal Simmons username and password

Click on home or browse networks.



  1. Click on MCBFS1.
  2. Click on Y: Drive.


The requested files will be visible.
